On Wednesday Bowls England issued its advice on the Covid-19 virus which I have attached to this notice. As a result of this advice, as well as the government’s directives, Ashtead Bowls Club will be closed until further notice and the clubhouse, together with the changing rooms, will be out of bounds to all members from the 1st April, when the clubhouse door code will be changed. This will apply to everyone apart from members of the working party undertaking essential maintenance work on Wednesday mornings and those who have agreed to mow the green over the coming months.
This decision will be reviewed at the end of May in the light of further government directives. Sadly, I believe that the entire season will be written off for competitive bowling with the possibility that after mid-summer we may be able to use the green, provided there is no social contact before or after the game, if the government feels they are getting the virus under control and decide that our generation should be allowed more freedom of movement from that time.
Please note that, although we will continue to maintain the green, this will be at the minimum levels advised by Bowls England and it will not be suitable for bowling on so please do not come to the club for a private roll up.
We have already printed the 2020 Fixtures and Membership booklet and this is being posted to your home address in the next few days. As well as being your membership card It does of course provide an up to date list of our member's contact details.
We need to look out for one another so we are looking at whether we can use technology to help us reduce the level of personal isolation and boredom we all face and if we find something that will help I will let you know. If anyone has any ideas about how we might do this then please drop me a note.
